SAFETY CULTURE
Safety is a badge of honor and source deep pride for Eskola. However, that is not where our team gets the most satisfaction. We are grateful to all the men and women on our team who make safety a part of the fabric of our culture so that everyone gets to go home safe at night. The father gets to have dinner with his family. The mother gets to tuck her babies in a night. The young men and women who work tirelessly throughout the day, get to fall asleep healthy in their own beds.
The desire to be safe seems so simple yet so elusive to most contractors. It is all too common for roofers to have multiple OSHA violations and safety infractions. Most chalk it up to, “it comes with the territory” or use a lot of slick talk to excuse it away. But usually an unsafe work environment or an overabundance of safety violations are strong indicators of systemic carelessness, behavioral deficiencies, or an unwillingness to put forth effort and financing towards safety programs.
At Eskola, we care about our team members and our partners, enough to ensure that our work environments and safety behaviors are of the highest caliber by allocating our first resources towards safety culture, training, and equipment.
Our culture is built around, not simply learning lists of safety rules, but by cultivating risk-averse safety behaviors in all of our people.
SAFETY METHODOLOGY
Safety is paramount in any industry, but especially in one as physically demanding and potentially hazardous as commercial roofing and waterproofing.
Here's an overview of the Eskola safety methodology:
Comprehensive Training Programs: Eskola invests in training employees on safety protocols and procedures. Before anyone sets foot on a job site, they undergo rigorous training that covers everything from proper equipment usage to emergency response protocols.
Regular Safety Meetings and Updates: Communication is key to maintaining a safe work environment. Eskola holds regular and consistent safety meetings to discuss any new procedures, address concerns, and reinforce the importance of safety on the job.
Job Hazard Analysis (JHA): Before starting any project, the team conducts a thorough job hazard analysis to identify potential risks and develop strategies to mitigate them. This proactive approach helps prevent accidents before they happen as all hazards are clearly defined in our Site Specific Safety Plan.
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Proper use of PPE is non-negotiable on any job site. Eskola ensures that all workers have access to and are trained to use the appropriate PPE for the task at hand, whether it's hard hats, safety glasses, gloves, or fall protection gear.
Equipment Maintenance and Inspection: Faulty equipment can pose serious safety risks. That's why Eskola follows a strict schedule for inspecting and maintaining all tools and machinery. Any equipment that doesn't meet safety standards is immediately repaired or replaced.
Fall Protection Systems: Working at heights is an inherent risk of commercial roofing, so the company implements robust fall protection systems. This includes guardrails, safety carts, and personal fall arrest systems to minimize the risk of falls and injuries.
Emergency Preparedness: Despite all precautions, accidents can still occur. That's why Eskola ensures that all employees are trained in emergency procedures. Additionally, they have protocols in place for reporting incidents and providing prompt medical attention when needed.
Continuous Improvement: Safety is an ongoing process of improvement. Eskola regularly reviews its safety policies and procedures, seeking feedback from team members and incorporating lessons learned from past incidents to constantly enhance safety practices.
By adhering to these principles and continuously prioritizing safety, Eskola not only protects the well-being of our people but also upholds our “industry giant” reputation as a responsible, reliable, and safe contractor.
“HOW DO I GET THE MOST OUT OF MY ROOFING AND WATERPROOFING?”
The key to long-term roof performance is consistent preventative maintenance and repairs. Often, major roof problems only come to the building owner’s attention when a leak has already happened, and after considerable damage has been done to the structure, equipment, or inventory.
Eskola has developed a comprehensive, and customizable, program designed to provide your building with consistent maintenance, attention and care. The program will maximize the performance of your roof system, ensure warranty compliance, forecast expenditures, and find potential issues before they become costly leaks.
