This was a real legacy project to get to work on for Vanderbilt University. This was the original gym built in 1880 and was in need of some special tlc when we won the contract to replace this roof. Everything about this project was custom and unique. Since this was a historical restoration we wanted to make sure every detail was accurate. The slate had to be custom made and shipped in by rail car to Nashville. The copper finials were all hand soldered and custom cut. Every metal element had to be custom fabricated and painstakenly soldered to meet the original specifications of the building. When the guys were removing the old roofing they actually discovered that the roofing slats were installed with hand made nails. We went back with a modern flat roof material as this was the best way to secure the longevity of this historical landmark. We worked on the project for a full year and are very proud of the final results!
